Snap-In Dentures
Tired of loose or uncomfortable dentures? Dentures supported by dental implants provide a more stable, removable alternative to traditional dentures.
What are Snap-in Dentures?
Implant-supported dentures can be a big boost in quality of life for denture wearers. No more slippage and an increase of chewing power from around 20 to 60%, meaning you can put back on the menu a lot of your favorite foods.
Snap-in Dentures can also be used as an economical implant option for full-teeth replacement.
Dr. Pournik stabilizes dentures with four implants per denture. The denture is still removable, allowing easy cleaning and maintenance.
Your current denture can often be adapted, or a new one will be created for you.

Bone Loss and Loose Dentures
People who have worn dentures for extended periods often experience bone loss due to a lack of stimulation to the jawbone, which can result in bone resorption. Traditional dentures provide significantly less chewing power than natural teeth, often around 20 percent.
When the jawbone structure weakens due to bone loss, dentures can become loose. Traditional dentures can contribute to bone loss by placing pressure on the gums without providing the stimulation needed to maintain the underlying bone. Bone loss in the jaw may then reduce support for the lower face and contribute to a sunken, prematurely aged appearance. Denture stabilization with implants can help preserve that support over time.
Who are Candidates for Denture Stabilization?
Dr. Pournik recommends denture stabilization for most denture wearers, as it helps dentures stay in place more securely, improves chewing ability, and increases overall comfort. It can be especially helpful for people with loose or slipping dentures and may also help slow bone loss over time. Even patients with significant bone loss, who may not qualify for fixed-in tooth procedures like Same-Day Implant Smiles, can often still receive a snap-in denture, since they place less stress on the implants and can be successful even when bone volume or density is reduced.

Types of Snap-In Dentures

Locator Snap-In Dentures
Locator snap-in dentures use dental implants in the upper or lower jaw with small attachments that allow the denture to securely “snap” into place. Locators are small connectors on the implants that the denture clicks onto, holding it firmly in place while still allowing it to be removed for cleaning.
Dr. Pournik typically places four implants per arch to provide consistent retention and long-term stability, carefully planning their position with 3D imaging for precise results.
Locator snap-in dentures provide:
Dr. Pournik often recommends this option for patients who want a more secure denture without moving to a fully fixed solution. Some patients choose to stabilize only the lower denture, which is typically more prone to slippage, while others treat both arches for a more complete result.

Bar Snap-In Dentures
Locator snap-in dentures provide reliable stability for most patients and are the most commonly used design. In certain cases where additional strength is needed, Dr. Pournik may recommend a bar-supported snap-in denture.
Instead of each implant holding the denture separately, a custom metal bar connects the implants, and the denture clips onto that bar. This creates a more unified, reinforced foundation.
A bar-supported design may be recommended when:
While bar systems can provide added strength, they are more complex, more expensive, and can be harder to clean. For this reason, locator attachments are typically the preferred option when they can provide sufficient stability.

Same-Day Implant Smiles
For the ultimate in stability, along with a natural feel, function and strength, Dr. Pournik can attach a new set of fixed-in permanent teeth onto implants. This is the Same-Day Implant Smiles procedure.

“It’s awesome, I can actually chew my food now.”
“I have a full mouth of teeth again, which I haven’t had for a very long time. I got five implants on the bottom and five on the top.
“It’s awesome, I can actually chew my food now. I don’t have to swallow food whole anymore. I hadn’t eaten an apple in five to seven years. And when I got the final new teeth in, I was able to.
“The staff are great. I felt really comfortable with them. It’s like a family. Everybody knows each other. Everybody gets along. It’s a good environment.

“I’m just so thrilled. I’m so happy.”
“The entire staff is so nice and so comforting. Everyone greets you with a smile. They are happy to work here.
“Her office is filled with high-tech equipment. That excited me because I hadn’t seen that. At the dentist offices I’ve been to, I hadn’t seen the different types of cameras that she uses and the equipment she has.
“I’m so happy. I’ve never had a straight bite, I’ve never had white teeth. I’ve always felt like I had a gray smile.”
